Sedation
in Omaha & Lincoln, NE

If dental visits make you feel nervous or anxious, sedation can help you relax during treatment. Our goal is to help you feel comfortable and confident while receiving the care you need.

What is sedation?

Sedation uses safe and controlled techniques to help patients feel calm and comfortable during dental procedures. It is often recommended for patients who experience dental anxiety, have a strong gag reflex, or need more complex treatments.

At Superior Dental Health, we believe dental care should feel manageable and stress-free. Sedation options can help patients relax while our team focuses on providing high-quality, patient-centered care.

The benefits of sedation

Sedation helps patients feel more relaxed during dental visits while allowing our team to provide care safely and efficiently.

Reduced dental anxiety

Sedation can help patients who feel nervous about dental procedures relax during their appointment.

Greater comfort during treatment

By helping patients remain calm and comfortable, sedation can make longer or more complex treatments easier to complete.

Easier dental visits

Sedation can help patients who have had difficulty receiving dental care in the past feel more comfortable returning for treatment.

Our sedation dentistry options

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)

Nitrous oxide, often called laughing gas, is a mild form of sedation that helps patients relax during dental treatment. It is administered through a small mask placed over the nose, allowing patients to breathe in the gas during the procedure.Nitrous oxide works quickly and helps create a calm, relaxed feeling while allowing patients to remain awake and responsive. Once the mask is removed, the effects wear off quickly so most patients can return to normal activities shortly after their appointment.

Oral conscious sedation

Oral conscious sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before your dental appointment to help you feel relaxed during treatment. The medication allows patients to remain awake but feel calm and less aware of the procedure. Many patients who receive oral sedation feel deeply relaxed and may remember very little about the procedure afterward. This option can be helpful for patients who experience significant dental anxiety or who require longer dental treatments.

The preventive dentistry process

01
Consultation and evaluation

Your dentist will begin by discussing your dental concerns, anxiety levels, and treatment needs. This conversation helps determine whether sedation dentistry may be helpful for your visit.

02
Selecting the right sedation option

Based on your health history and treatment plan, your dentist will recommend the most appropriate type of sedation. You will receive clear instructions to help you prepare for your appointment.

03
Comfortable dental care

During your appointment, sedation will help you remain relaxed while the dental team performs your treatment. Our team will monitor your comfort throughout the procedure to ensure a safe and positive experience.

Great, fun, and efficient office! People with cool names and great attitudes work there. They took me in for an emergency on a Friday and treated me like family. I highly recommend this office!

It had been very long since I’d been to the dentist so I went into this appointment with a lot of fear and anxiety. Every person I interacted with was so kind and understanding. The woman at the front desk helped me with my insurance, and even called to confirm my visit would be covered when I didn’t have the right insurance card with me. I felt very taken care of during my visit and they put my nerves at ease.

My first experience was positive! They accomplished more than I thought we would in that appointment & I feel confident in the treatment plan. I learned a few things about my particular dental structure that I was not aware of - leads me to think I will have better health in the long run.

Very professional and attentive staff. Scheduling is simple; appointments are on time. The hygienist and dentist have been phenomenal! Highly recommended.

Honestly, I am not a gusher with my compliments so when I say, this was THE BEST dental experience I have ever had in my 64 years of life, you can take it as truth! Plus, the office was able to schedule me on the same day I called as a new client. Extra kudos!

Jill L.

The staff was incredibly friendly and upbeat. The office and exam areas looked clean and organized. Most importantly, they were able to get me in quickly and arranged follow up appointments within the coming weeks around my schedule so I didn't have to wait months or take days off.
